Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation

CIMWI's primary purpose is to provide aid the plight of local marine and terrestrial wildlife through rescue, care and rehabilitation. Treatment of sick and injured animals is administered by veterinary medical professionals, supervised by CIMWI Executive Director and Chief Veterinarian, Dr. Samuel Dover. With over 19 years of experience, Dr. Dover began his career at Sea World of California and has worked with many marine parks throughout the world. He was also the Veterinarian and Director of Conservation and Research at the Santa Barbara Zoo. Dr. Dover is known for his work using minimally invasive surgical techniques for dolphins, seals and sea lions, walruses, manatees, sea turtles and sharks.

CIMWI staff are responsible for coordinating the response, care and rehabilitation efforts of the rescued animals with the goal of returning these animals to their natural, wild environment. CIMWI facilities are capable of supporting acute treatment and medical care. Additionally, pools and holding areas will be used for ongoing rehabilitation of marine mammals and wildlife.
