CIMWI Education

Channel Islands Marine and Wildlife Institute is committed to educating the public on the plight of marine and terrestrial wildlife and the impact that people have on the environment, thereby promoting ways in which individuals can help bring about positive change.  Channel Islands Marine and Wildlife Institute will provide education and support to the surrounding community, children’s programs, agencies, organizations, researchers and veterinarians as well as consulting services to oil companies.

Community Education

• Conduct educational programs featuring a variety of professionals at Channel Islands Marine and Wildlife Institute
• Participate in local events that support Channel Islands Marine and Wildlife Institute’s mission

Educational Programs for Children

• Develop and deliver an outreach program for schools creating awareness and providing education
• Develop and host field trip programs at Channel Islands Marine and Wildlife Institute for schools providing a variety of educational opportunities including interactive exhibits, classroom lecture, treatment and care observation and exposure to research
• Develop and offer day camp programs for children at Channel Islands Marine and Wildlife Institute comprised of classroom, laboratory, ocean, field and hands on wildlife experiences

Education and Support to Agencies, Organizations, Researchers and Veterinarians

• Collaborate with others to host and provide training in animal rescue and rehabilitation
• Conduct training and educational opportunities for universities (veterinary programs, biology and marine sciences, etc.)
• Conduct training and educational opportunities for Veterinarians

Educational and Consulting Services to Oil Companies

• Conduct training for oil companies on oiled wildlife safety and care
• Work with oil companies during oil spill response situations
